Subjective speed of time flow
Slavíková, Lenka ; Bahbouh, Radvan (advisor) ; Stehlík, Luděk (referee)
The following thesis deals with psychological time, duration of time and primarily the subjective speed of time. In the theoretical part the theories of time perception and the theories of time acceleration with age are presented. In the empirical part a hypothesis about the acceleration of subjective time with age is tested. In contrast to popularly held view that time passes faster with increasing age, empirical data do not support this assumption. A questionnaire mapping the impressions of the speed of time was administered to a sample of 101 respondents from three age groups (adolescents, adults and seniors). The newly developed Subjective time speed inventory (ISRČ) and Zimbardo time perspective inventory (ZTPI) were also included. Most respondents agree with the statement that time seems to pass faster now than before and that time seems to pass fast. Testing the main research hypothesis about the acceleration of time with age, however, finds no significant differences in perceived speed of time along with age (Kruskal-Wallis test). Significant difference in relation to age was found only in the speed measurement by means of ISRČ (Kruskal-Wallis test). Adolescents achieved significantly higher raw score than adults and seniors by means of ISRČ (Mann-Whitney U test). This result implies that...
Changes in Time Perception during Covid-19 Pandemic
Babíček, Matouš ; Grygar, Jakub (advisor) ; Bartheldi, Layla (referee)
The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to identify and then describe changes in time perception in students, during Covid-19 pandemic. The aim is to describe these changes and make assumptions based on chosen literature. The target group will be University students, without only limited specifications. Bachelor theses focuses, e.g. on the positive and negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, perception of time during pandemic, changes in the perception of time, routine and time schedule. Investigation will be carried out through a qualitative method of semi-structured interviews with mentioned students, in the context of Covid-19 pandemic. Key words: Time perception, changes in time perception, Covid-19, rutine behaviour, absence of free movement, student's perspective
Early ontogenesis of time percepction
Dörflová, Kateřina ; Nekovářová, Tereza (advisor) ; Nikolai, Tomáš (referee)
This work focuses on the topic of time perception, particular emphasis is placed on interval timing. Significant part of this work is oriented toward early ontogenesis of time perception, specifically toward human perception of time from the developmental perspective. Fundamental approaches relevant for current research in the field of time perception are represented in this work, especially from the psychological perspective. The work presents comprehensive view on the current state of knowledge concerning mechanisms of time perception and its function. Emphasis is placed on existing research of interval timing and related variables playing essential role in timing. Current knowledge in the field of the development of time perception is compared with the concept of time perception and its development in context of Jean Piaget's popular theory of cognitive development. KEYWORDS Time, time perception, interval timing, human ontogenesis
Time and society. Social time over the centuries
Štiková, Irena ; Petrusek, Miloslav (advisor) ; Svobodová, Ludmila (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the phenomenon of time from a sociological perspective. More specifically it investigates the social time in contemporary and medieval western society. The theoretical and methodological framework is based on the Sociology of Time and on the Historical sociology. These two fields of study provide an adequate basis for research in this thesis. It is used study, compilation and comparative analysis of relevant sources. It means historical, sociological papers and fiction, which deal with the problematic of time. The social time in medieval society is examined from the following views: attitude to history, transience, structuring activities, labour and religion. The second part reflects social time in contemporary society from a little bit atypical point of view. Aspects of immortality and goals of our contemporary fast period are pointed out. The main vision of these sites it to explore the social time itself and in context of medieval and contemporary society.
Methodological aspects of active place avoidance task
Bahník, Štěpán ; Stuchlík, Aleš (advisor) ; Němec, Pavel (referee)
The active place avoidance task represents one of the methods of the study of animal cognition. In this task, a subject is put on a rotating circular arena and avoids invisible sector that is stable with respect to the room. Rotation of the arena means that the subject's avoidance must be active, otherwise the subject would be moved in the punished sector by the rotation of the arena and a slight electric shock would be administered. The experiment described in the present work explored the effect of variable arena rotation speed on the ability to avoid the punished sector. Rats in a group with a variable arena rotation speed learned to avoid the punished sector with the same speed and attained the same ability to avoid the sector as rats in a group with a stable arena rotation speed. The only difference between the two groups was found in a preferred position within the room. No difference was found between the two groups in the dark phase, where the rats could not use orientation cues in the room. Only one rat was able to learn the avoidance of the punished sector in this phase. The results of the experiment suggest that idiothetic orientation and interval timing are not crucial for learning of the avoidance of the punished sector. However, idiothetic orientation is sufficient for the avoidance of the...
Cannabinoids and Time Perception
Popova, Anastasia ; Nekovářová, Tereza (advisor) ; Honc, Ondřej (referee)
Interval timing (i.e.the perception of time in the seconds-to-minutes range) allows various animal species including humans to estimate duration of elapsed time. This process can be disrupted by cannabinoids and most often it is subjectively perceived as time deceleration. This work will describe the main models of interval timing, neuroanatomical structures involved in this process, and the main neurotransmitters. The results of studies examining the effect of cannabinoid on the interval timing, possible explanations according to the particular models, and the interaction between the cannabinoid and dopaminergic systems will be described as well. Keywords: interval timing, time perception, cannabinoids, dopamine

Perceiving time with preschool kids
BÍCHOVÁ, Lucie
The bachelor thesis deals with the development of the time perception of preschool children. It submits a number of the practical activities which provides this field to the children in an enjoyable and edifying way. The aim of this thesis is to offer the methodical concepts of activities leading to the development of the time perception, to realize the projects and to find out their effectiveness. This work is divided into the theoretical and the practical part. The theoretical part is focused on the cognitive development of the preschool child and it describes the possibilities of the project lessons. The practical part is consist of four projects, which were planned and realized in the class of preschool children from five to six years old, it also includes the final evaluation. The projects are aimed at the development of orientation in time, and their influence was proved by eliciting the previous skills via the interviews with the children that were done before and after the projects.
Time and space perception in laboratory rats
Malenínská, Kristýna ; Stuchlík, Aleš (advisor) ; Horáček, Jiří (referee)
Time and spatial information are always two inseparable entities because if anyone moves in space it also moves in time. However, spatial orientation is much more investigated than interval timing. Time perception is for survival of the individual also very important and it probably works together with spatial perception. Despite this, only a few researches have been focused on this topic and therefore we aimed on evolving a new task which would test use of both of these informations and interaction between them. This new version of AAPA task was tested on Carousel Maze where we usually test only spatial orientation and memory. However, we added also a timing part to our version of the task because we assume that in this task when we turn off the light the rats have to use more interval timing than spatial information. Next part of the task included application of drugs which should compromise timing strategies. We have demonstrated use of different strategies when animals are in darkness and light whereby parts in light depend on spatial orientation and parts in darkness depend more on timing strategies. The drugs didn't disrupt rat's abilities which can be caused by very complex design or by inappropriately chosen doses. Key words time perception, spatial navigation, cognitive function
